Svenska Handelshögskolan or Hanken is from 2009 the only independent business school in Finland. Hanken has two campuses, one in Helsinki, founded in 1909 and the other in Vaasa with activities since 1980. The university is thus one of the oldest business schools in the Nordic region.
In connection with the establishment of the Vaasa units, there was also a need to arrange student community activities for the students in the town. This need was met by establishing a student association. Studentföreningen vid Svenska Handelshögskolan i Vasa r.f.
The association, commonly known as SSHV, consists of more than 700 members and manages Svenska Handelshögskolans Studentkårs (SHS) business in Vaasa. The Student Association’s task is, among other things, to act as a support organization for those studying at Hanken and to oversee the student’s interests.
The association is divided into a number of committees which have different responsibilities. In addition, there are a number of functionaries who are responsible for different areas of activity. The tasks of SSHV are very extensive, ranging from university policy, education policy, study support and study issues to study discounts and student cards.
The Student Association and all its activities operate on a voluntary basis. As an active member, you have the opportunity to get in touch with business already as a student. Commissions within the student association also give students the opportunity to establish contacts for the future, learn to organize and work in groups. In addition to this instructive and useful activity, it is also possible to attach important contacts to students at other colleges, make new friends, have fun and experience things that can only be experienced during the study period and remembered and enjoyed after studying.
